We asked our Boss Babe, Ana Montes de Oca to shed some light on how our lovely San Diego blondes can keep their color bright and hair healthy all year! You already know that blonde can get brassy quickly, so here are a few simple tricks to help keep your freshly highlighted hues bright and eye-catching.
Our #1 tip for maintaining your blonde...
Violet hair care products are your best friend.
Ana recommends stocking up on violet shampoo and conditioner to beat brassy tones consistently.
A violet toning shampoo that keeps blondes bombshell-bright, countering brassiness and neutralizing yellow undertones as it gently cleanses and delivers instant softness, hydration, and shine. We recommend all our blonde babes to use HELIO 1-2 times a week.
Whether you’ve gone blonde all over or have a few face-framing highlights, a high quality violet shampoo and conditioner will stop brassiness, while returning hair to healthy radiance.
You may have heard of purple shampoo, but how does it work? On the opposite side of the color spectrum from yellow, the violet pigment in HELIO counteracts the brassiness that occurs as part of the bleaching process. A perfect blonde shampoo, will tone down warm yellow to a cool, ashy blonde. The lighter your blonde, the more distinct the results you will see from violet toning.
We're loving the SEVEN HELIO line of violet shampoo + conditioner. If you want a game changer violet shampoo and conditioner, look no further.
“A big no no”
A big no no when it comes to blonde maintenance is straightening or waving your hair when the hair already had a smoothing oil in it. Oils are a conductor of heat and if you over expose your blonde hair to mechanical heat you will find that the oil will burn the causing a brownish tinge to the hair.
Ana's recommendation is to use a leave-in spray like Seven's Rinzu Heat Defense spray. A lightweight thermal protectant that shields against heat damage while sealing in natural luster and providing light hold with beautiful style memory.
Allowing sweat to sit in the hair for too long can also contribute to staining. It’s gross to think about but when you sweat your body produces a chemical reaction that stains garments, think yellow sweat patches on your favorite white tee. The same thing can happen to your hair.
Being a porous blonde, you want to cleanse your hair after lots of sweating. Cleansing away the grime will avoid the hair color tarnishing.
For all of you sun loving blonde babes...
Do you spend a lot of time outdoors? Ana always recommends that blondes use something hydrating on their hair during longer periods of sun exposure or swimming in the ocean.
We love the Rinzu Protect hydrating spray for blondes because it doesn't break the bank, it's full of antioxidants & nutrients, and smells incredible. Tip: work some through your hair while you’re at the beach and cleanse it out when you get home. This product is amazing as it has a UV protector in it and it always hydrates your hair at the same time.
Also remember that the best option when outdoors at the beach is to actually hide the hair, wearing a hat will save not only your hair but also your face. You’ll thank us when you’re wrinkle free and sunspot safe!
