With the holiday season comes parties, celebrations, corporate events, and family dinners. Obviously, you want to look your best and leave a good impression with your guests. With so many exciting things happening at once, it can be difficult to decide what to do with your hair.
Skip the stress - we’ve compiled a few of our favorite holiday styles that you can do yourself. We’ve included everything from classic looks to more daring ideas that are sure to stand out. Here is our holiday style guide for hair that makes a statement.
1: Put Your Hair Into a (Faux) Bob
a) Always wanted short hair but struggle with the commitment? This nifty trick will give you the illusion of having much shorter tresses without having to make a single cut. It’s pretty magical if you ask us ;)
b) Get the Look: Style your hair the way you’d like (we’ve found that curls or waves work the best). Then, secure your hair into a messy, low ponytail. Next, tuck the end of the ponytail underneath your crown and secure to your scalp with bobby pins.
c) Why We Love It: We’re obsessed with short styles and this little trick replicates it perfectly! We recommend pairing this style with a pair of statement earrings!
2: The Fancy Ponytail
a) If you find yourself in a rush, this style will save the day. Think of it like an upgraded version of the ponytail. All it takes is a few minutes and you’ll be out the door looking chic, and everyone at the party will be none the wiser.
b) Get the Look: Begin by French braiding the hair on each side of your head, tying each braid off at the end. These sections can be as big or as small you’d like. Next, gently pull your hair into a low ponytail securing it with an elastic that matches the color of your hair. Once your hair is tied off, you can undo the elastics for each individual braid. Finally, to make this look a little bit dressier, take a small piece of hair (about a half inch section) from the underside of the ponytail and wrap it around the elastic. Secure this with a bobby pin, making sure to tuck it under the elastic, and your finished!
c) Why We Love It: Not only is this look easy to style but it’s also quite practical. If you know you’ll be pressed for time the day of the even, you can style your hair like this in the morning and it will hold all day. This look compliments dresses with higher neckline or a lot of detailing at the bodice. Your hair will still be eye catching without distracting from the style of the dress.
3. Add a Little Sparkle
a) One way to dress up an everyday hairstyle is by adding glittering embellishments to it. You can really have fun with this, using everything from decorative bobby pins to hair gems. The best part about this style is that it works on pretty much any hair length.
b) Get the Look: Pin your hair half-up & half-down with bobby pins. We recommend teasing the hair slightly to give the embellishments something to grip onto. Next, get creative and experiment with different placement of the accessories. Once you’ve decided where you want everything to go, give your head a quick mist of hairspray for extra hold.
c) Why We Love It: You have full creative control with this hairstyle. Don’t be afraid to play around with different accessories, that’s what the fun is all about! These embellishments look great when paired with a simpler dress. Doing so sets all the focus on your dazzling hairstyle!
4. Go Au Naturale
a) It’s no secret that the cooler temperatures and brisk wind can cause some serious bad hair days. The winter weather can dry out hair, making it even more important to cut back on the amount of heat you’re applying to your hair.
b) Get the Look: Wash your hair and apply a leave-in conditioner to your towel dried hair. This will help minimize the damage that the cold weather inflicts on your tresses. Once your hair is fully dry, style as you’d like. Play around with your hair, mess it up a bit, pin back the front pieces, whatever you think will work best. If you have wavy hair, a great tip to define your curls is to gently twist each section in the way that you would like it to fall. Once you’re satisfied, apply a shine and texturizing spray to make your tresses stand out!
c) Why We Love It: We’re all for a heat detox, especially because hair is extra prone to damage in the winter. Don’t be afraid to rock your hair in its natural state! It could be what is the most healthy for it right now. Luckily, this style complements any type of outfit with just a little bit of tweaking.
5. Sleek Low Bun
a) This look is a classic with a modern edge to it. The style of bun is timeless while the sleekness is super trendy right now. This look is the perfect middle ground and will have you looking stunning all night long.
b) Get the Look: Make sure hair is straight and brushed out. Next, comb your hair back, covering up the part. Apply your favorite gel to the sides of the bun for an extra sleek and secure look. Pull your hair into a tight low ponytail, securing with an elastic. Then, gently twist the ponytail and then wrap it around the elastic. Secure your bun with another hair tie and bobby pins,
c) Why We Love It: This look doesn’t take much effort at all but it looks so put together and classy. The best part is its versatility: a sleek bun looks good with pretty much every outfit. We especially love this style when paired with a backless number or a high neckline.
